8 Steps to Troubleshoot QuickBooks unable to locate pdf viewer

Basically, one of our user's mapped network drives are not showing up in Adobe Reader. If he tries to open a PDF on one of these network drives, Reader gives an error saying that it cannot find the file. If you open Windows Explorer, the mapped drives are functioning properly I believe that this is the root of the issue. I do not believe this is an Adobe issue based upon the battery of tests that I've run. I am inclined to believe that the problem lies somewhere in the OS, but I have no idea where to begin to look.

This is the support response they gave us:. Therefore, network shares that are mapped by logon scripts are shared with the standard user access token instead of with the full administrator access token. Solution Configure the EnableLinkedConnections registry value, which allows Windows to share network connections between the filtered access token and the full administrator access token for a member of the Administrators group.

Caution: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application.

It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes. Locate and then right-click the following registry subkey:. Right-click EnableLinkedConnections, and then click Modify. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

Updated to the latest version Compared Preferences to a working machine. Disabled Enhanced Security 4. Disabled Protected Mode 5. Uninstall again, this time using Adobe's tool to remove all traces of Reader. Uninstall completely again, rolled back to Ensured Protected Mode is not on. Checked application properties: not running in compatibility mode, not running as administrator, although we did try to run it once as admin with no success.

Thank you so much for sharing that documentation! Well done, sir. What makes this fix so strange is that the user that was having the problem is not a member of the local Administrators group I tried it because I was totally out of ideas.

I had a Laptop running windows 8. I used the Regedit you had posted above and problem solved! Hi Dan! Welcome to the community! Glad we were able to help you find your solution. This place is great for that. Funny thing is, it was working before, I don't know what variable caused it to suddenly not work, but your post eased much grief. Hi Peter! As I mentioned above, this community is great for getting assistance that's hard to find anywhere else on the web.

Glad you were able to get the answer you needed and welcome to the community! I had this same issue with a client that couldn't see mapped network drives in an upload dialog popup in Internet Explorer I made the registry changes as described, rebooted the PC and everything now works.

Thank you for this fix! Windows 10 update broke this on a client machine and this fixed it quickly. Gonna have to reiterate everyone's high praise here. Well done Tim! Excellent explanation of the symptoms, cause and more importantly the solution.

It worked instantly well I'm going to keep this solution tucked away in my 'special handy tips' folder as this ISN'T the first and only time that I've encountered this issue. Seriously amazed this worked I had this problem in Windows 10 Pro trying access another share on the network. Quickbooks would not see the mapped drives. QuickBooks File Doctor wouldn't see the network drives.
